Shirley is a practising artist, living in Aurora, Ontario since 1987. She is an expert horticulturalist and competes in many floral design shows through our local Aurora Garden Club, the Milne House Garden Club in Toronto which is a resident club of the Toronto Botanical Gardens and has also competed in floral design competition in two (W.A.F.A.) World Flower Shows, one in Paris France in 1990, and one in Toronto in 1993 where she designed her container out of sheet metal and created a 7 ft. design with fresh plant materials.

She has a deep appreciation for nature coming from a farming background in south western Ontario, and through her travels across Canada and abroad, which is reflected in various art pieces. Shirley works in a variety of media including watercolour for about thirteen years, collaging and intuitive art with local artist, Dorothy Clark McClure, print making, and for the last three years acrylics and mixed media. She also attended the Haliburton School of Fine Arts for a week for five years taking courses with various well known artists. She continues to explore the art world by taking various courses with alternative mediums.

She is a member of our local S.O.Y.R.A (The Society of York Region Artists), Kingcrafts Studio in King City, and ECOAA (Eastern Central Ontario Art Association). She has participated in juried art shows with S.O.Y.R.A, and Art Aurora for the last three years. Each fall she attends Geneva Park and participates in workshops with visiting artists organized by ECOAA. She also participates in painting workshops in different mediums with various artists offered by S.O.Y.R.A.
