I am of Finnish heritage and spent my early childhood in Sudbury. I remember the black rock and stark landscape of the time caused by acid rain. By school age we lived by Charles Lake and its clear waters and calm glassiness won my heart! Later on we would move to Finland and back settling in Walden ON just west of Copper Cliff and Sudbury..
The many moves, especially the international ones, gave me a strong sense of being Canadian! I love the lakes, the birches, wild flowers, but most of all the rocks and rocky outcrops of the Canadian Shield! They signify home. The open sky!

My mom was an artist. Like her grandmother, she created with yarn and a weaving loom. I never thought myself to be like them. The tapestry of my life- it's many moves, phases and experiences have shaped the artist in me. My medium varies- flowers, fabric, pencil sketching, acrylic on mirror and canvas, water colour. Seems I need the flexibility of working with 'open borders' of my mind and art.

I studied Interior Design at the Design School of Fanshawe College in London Ontario graduating with an Applied Arts. Its broad approach to the design disciplines had us study the Fine Arts as well. After graduating I worked as a lighting consultant, then as a visual presentation specialist within the furniture showroom industry designing spaces for the general public. Ethan Allen and Sears. Now a new point in my life. A crossroads and new career path.

Enter a year ago, the death of a baby nephew in a freak accident. Working through that grief I found help in painting, poetry writing- my artistic self came to the forefront. I am a new member of SOYRA, let's see where my path winds.
